Esterbrook JR Pocket Pen: PARADISE COLLECTION

JR Pocket Pen: PARADISE COLLECTION

Because even the most refined fountain pen lover needs a tropical vacation, we are pleased to introduce our first limited edition, seasonal offering of “JR” pens, the Paradise Collection.

The “J” was the original Esterbrook’s sleek and suave, classic 1940’s and 50’s pocket pen that appealed to the practicality of the times. It was the perfect pen for both men and women, and we think it still is today.

Our new “JR” model, introduced as part of our revival of the Esterbrook brand and added to our core line of collections, is stylish and refined without being too fancy.  It’s meant to match your style, as nicely as it graces your hand. With an elegant design, that isn’t fussy, it is compact in size, so you can always have one on hand and with you on the go, wherever you go.

The Paradise “JR” Collection is the “JR” Pocket Pen on the rocks with a salted rim and a twist.  Offered in three limited edition colors, Lemon Twist, Orange Sunset and Blue Breeze, think soothing breezes, warm ocean currents, bungalows, painted buoys, panoramic views for miles, mangroves, marinas and lounging for hours with a cocktail in hand and the mellow melodies and vivid lyrics of Jimmy Buffett floating through the air.

And since we hope you’ll hold onto it long after you ditch your flip flops, sunglasses, and day drinking, both the German JoWo nib and the top of the pen have been engraved with the Esterbrook Eternity symbol.

It’s our tropical take on the small but mighty, ready for summer, pocket pen.

ESTERBROOK ESTIE SEA GLASS

“The sea once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”

-Jacques Cousteau

Timeless takes time.

And so it is with the coveted coastal treasures that wash ashore during low tides all over the world, known as sea glass. Shaped over many sunrises and sunsets, these bits of colored glass drift for as many as two hundred years, weathering storms in the salt water, tossing and turning, Mother Nature’s own polishing that gives them their characteristically smooth, frosted texture.

Prominent in the Northeastern United States, beaches along the shores of New Jersey and New York can be found teeming with these heirlooms and artifacts of whiskey and spirits, trinkets, medicine bottles, dinnerware, jam jars, old taillights and if fortune finds you, a piece of an antique ink bottle.

First used decoratively at the turn of the last century, beachcombers seek out these little gems giving credence to the statement that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. A bounty of colors ranging from amber to green, black to pale pink and clear frost to the rarest turquoise blue, make sea glass a highly collectible commodity.

To celebrate the nearby shores of Esterbrook’s birthplace, we present the Sea Glass as the newest Estie in our Core Range. As sea glass is for all seasons, this offering will join our other classic colors as a permanent part of the Estie lineup.

Specifications:

As a part of our Core Range, the comfortably balanced Estie Sea Glass is offered in ballpoint, rollerball, standard and oversized fountain pen models.

It is offered in both gold and palladium finishes.

The material is blended and turned acrylic with a Sea Glass mix of colors and a highly-polished finish.

A sleek clip provides a clean accent for the cap and slides easily to one’s shirt pocket

The fountain pen is available in a complete range of points for the way you write.

We offer a variety of standard nib sizes: extra fine, fine, medium, broad and 1.1 stub.

We also offer two proprietary nibs as a part of our custom nib program: The “Journaler” ground for us by nibmeister Gena Salorino and The “Scribe” by nibmeister Josh Lax.

The Estie is also available with an engineered MV Nib Adaptor (sold separately.) The MV Adaptor delivers a vintage nib experience housed in the modern Estie. Most vintage Esterbrook nib units are compatible with this adaptor.

Our nibs are specially manufactured for us in Germany by Jowo.

A cushion cap closure provides a secondary seal to ensure a wet point.

Ink is filled by a cartridge of ink or a converter, which acts like a syringe to draw ink from a bottle.

Available in EF, F, M, B, 1.1 Stub, Journaler & Scribe

Esterbrook Estie Aqua spring release

We are pleased to introduce our newest Esterbrook special edition, the Esterbrook Estie Aqua.

As Richard Esterbrook was setting up shop in the 1850’s in Camden, New Jersey, perhaps the greatest book about the sea ever written was in its first printing: Moby Dick. And while there is nothing in the records to show that Herman Melville had an Esterbrook pen when he was writing his tale, thousands of books about the ocean have been written before and since, so surely some of them must have been penned with an Esterbrook. The Aqua Estie is a new daily writer to celebrate iconic writers, like Melville, John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemingway and even William Shakespeare, all of whom put pen to paper to dispel the mysteries of the oceans.

The spirit of the sea has been described by these and so many other writers, in song, soliloquy, fiction, memoirs, odes and asides for as long as there have been these words: vast, tranquil, placid, peaceful, ethereal, and dazzling for a start. These boundless and infinite expanses conjure up as many feelings and images as there are words for them: crystal clear waters in every shade of blue surrounding majestic islands, the smell and taste of a salty, briny ocean, the sparkling caps of undulating waves, lazy days spent seeking shimmering shells and building monumental sandcastles and the waning light of the sun as it sets over the water in a symphony of color.

The Estie Aqua embodies all these words and experiences in a writing instrument. Its acrylic captures the mother of pearl luminosity of shells and the technicolor hue of deep, aqua waters. It is available as a Standard or Oversized gold-trimmed fountain pen with standard Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad or 1.1 Stub nibs and available with the “Journaler” for $50 additionally or “Scribe” nib for $60 additionally. The Estie Aqua is also available as a rollerball or ballpoint pen.

The Estie Aqua pens are available in limited quantities, which will disappear as swiftly as the tide.

“There’s magic in the water that draws all [people] away from the lands, that leads them over hills, down creeks and streams and rivers to the sea. -Herman Melville

Esterbrook Estie Gold Rush

As Richard Esterbrook was setting up shop on the east coast in 1858, one of the most significant events to shape American history was just coming to a close. The Gold Rush brought 300,000 people from around the world to California, making San Francisco the central metropolis of the new frontier. Discovery of gold nuggets in the Sacramento Valley ten years earlier stoked the American dream, causing one of the first major gold rushes since the time of the Roman Empire.

The rivers of California had plans for this sleepy part of the country and the glistening waters drew industrialists, laborers, entrepreneurs and dreamers to sift them for ore and to secure their fortunes. This sense of making one’s own way was not lost on the English Esterbrook, who was himself trying to make a better life for himself and his family by seeking prosperity in the United States.

To celebrate the Gold Rush’s place in American history and honor Esterbrook’s own history, the Esterbrook Estie has been reimagined in two limited edition gilded colors, beginning with the release of the Prospector Black and the Frontier Green.

The Premium Gold Rush Estie’s will all be available as Standard and Oversized gold-trimmed Fountain Pens with standard Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad or 1.1 Stub nibs. It is also available with the “Journaler” nib for $50 additionally.

This offering is also available as a rollerball and for the first time, this special edition Estie is available as a ballpoint pen.

The Gold Rush Estie’s are available in limited quantities and will be gone just as quickly as the gold boom was.

Estie Peacock

Introducing our most regal Estie to date: the Estie Peacock

For this Estie we turned to the Peacock’s fabled place in the mythology of India, where the Peacock has been revered for thousands of years.

The pride of the peacock has long been depicted in temple art, writings and music. The peacock’s place in Indian folklore cannot be overemphasized: one of the most important deities, Lord Krishna was known to have adorned his head with the peacocks’ feathers and in illustrations of Shiva, the God of War, he is often accompanied by the peacock as a sign of strength. The peacock symbolized wisdom, royalty and power and it still does today, as the national bird of India.

To illuminate the magnificent colors of the peacock, the Diamondcast material for these writing instruments was developed in collaboration with McKenzie Penworks and gleams just like the glimmering feathers of this majestic bird. Available in rollerball, standard and oversized fountain pens, the Peacock Estie is available in extremely limited quantities, making it just as rare as the glorious avian it represents.

Available in Oversize fountain, traditional fountain size and rollerball. All trim and appointments are gold plated and standard nib sizes apply, including EF, Fine, Medium, Broad, 1.1 Stub and the Custom JournalerThe “Journaler” nib has a $50 upcharge.

Esterbrook endures.

The Esterbrook Estie OS Sparkle

The Estie has been an integral part of the revival of the new Esterbrook brand.  It’s sleek and stately in the hand and a great writing instrument for everyday use and special occasions.

In the past two years, pen enthusiasts all over globe have added the Estie to their collections. And while these pens have been lauded in our three time-honored, classic colors and our seasonal offerings in Evergreen, Blueberry, Honeycomb and Lilac, even the Estie wants to truly break out and gussy up from time to time.

 Introducing the Estie Sparkle.

This gem of a pen has had a glitzy makeover and is our most ambitious Estie to date.

As Esterbrook is committed to collaborations with US makers, for this limited edition Estie, we partnered with Tim McKenzie of McKenzie Penworks in Charlotte, NC.

Tim McKenzie of McKenzie Penworks in Charlotte, NC is a custom Alumilite blank maker who wanted to separate himself in the marketplace. How to make one’s product unique is a challenge to artisans throughout the industry, so Tim got innovative and added diamonds to his mix of Alumilite and pigments.

Taking knowledge and advice from his mother, a GIA certified gemologist, and conducting his own research and experimentation, Tim figured out the precise size diamond particles needed to be to allow his pen material to be machined effectively without losing the intense sparkle of the precious gems.

Using reclaimed diamond particles from diamond cutters, McKenzie takes what would be wasted and instead, upcycles it and makes it into a material that shines and glimmers with light in each move of the resulting pen.

Now patent pending, McKenzie’s Diamondcast material has made a big impression and enchanted custom penmakers all over the globe.

Staying with Esterbrook’s tradition of utilizing as many American made materials as possible, we approached Tim to partner with us to make a new version of our oversized Estie, because let’s face it, if you’re going to have a pen made with diamond dust, it has to be supersized and we wanted to use his material in the most epic way we could.

The result is the Estie Sparkle. It comes in three shimmering gem-like shades, Garnet, Tanzanite and Montana Sapphire (which has the addition of silver to make it even more of a showstopper).

Story

Meet The Camden Composition.

For nearly two hundred years, the traditional Composition Notebook has remained virtually unchanged. Evolved from the ancient Japanese art of Suminagashi, its unique black and white marbled cover has graced the desks of schoolchildren and scholars, artists and authors.

Now two classics meet.

Introducing the Camden Composition.

A tribute to the heritage of both the Esterbrook Camden and the classic Composition Notebook, this limited release is an homage to schoolwork and notetaking, to the words of yesteryear and carrying the tradition of analog into future.

Story

Meet The Camden.

Named for the city where Richard Esterbrook settled his company, the Camden Collection speaks to a time in the 1930’s when Camden, NJ was at its most prosperous and home to some of the most important innovations of its day. Perhaps most famously, it was the birthplace of RCA Victor where, in 1933, an experimental TV station broadcast would be the first signs of technology that would ultimately eclipse the radio.  As RCA was producing millions of records, Esterbrook was producing millions of pens. One can almost hear the sounds of the production belts humming along still. Now, this dignified American town of the early twentieth century, translates to an equally classic pen. As records have made their comeback in the last decade, so too, has the American fountain pen. Produced in three colors, Rose, Graphite and Silver, with bright silver hardware, the Camden, is streamlined and sleek. Designed for ultimate comfort when writing, the pen features a contoured grip section and  a satin-like finish with a grain that harkens to the grooves on a record. The pen is balanced with a weight that feels substantial without feeling like, well, heavy metal. Whether you are penning daily notes, journaling, planning, or writing the next great tune for the American songbook, the Camden will become a standard in your collection.
