As the lunar year of the dragon reaches its apex, a familiar, mythological figure returns to the Montegrappa fold. Imperial Year of the Dragon touches our past while reviving the pillars of recent limited-edition success. The new edition will be available to dealers from September 2024.

Imperial Year of the Dragon revisits the core artisanal features of Skulls & Roses, the sold-out 2022 edition that premiered our 5-axis fibre laser capability with striking, full-body tattoo engraving. Like its predecessor, our new edition is made in numbered runs of 333 fountain pens and rollerballs.

Once again, multiaxial laser-engraving has been used to subvert the essential form of Extra, elaborating sterling silver with bespoke, 19th-century tattoo illustration cut into its entire length. Tarnishing and brushing effects provide a gritty, vintage patina that accentuates the engraving’s extraordinary density and crispness.

Advances on our 2022 design include a ⌀2mm AAA ruby (0.04 ct) set into the clip, and the selection of black-carbon Juma® as the grip section material. Our first-ever use of this innovative resin foreshadows forthcoming releases that will continue to explore the dragon mythos.

Fountain pens are again equipped with piston filling, an ⌀8mm custom ‘hungry dragon’ nib in 18K gold (EF, F, M, B, Stub 1.1) and an ebonite feed. Packaging for the collection also provides continuity from Skulls & Roses via our Walnut case, elaborated with a special collection plaque. Fountain pens are supplied with a 50ml bottle of blue Signature Ink with a custom-engraved cap.

Our original Vintage Class silhouette is due for a refresh, which is why we are delighted to announce the addition of two new colours to our Elmo 01 roster. Beginning now, Elmo 01 will be arriving into stock in new Peach Fuzz and Frost in all writing modes.

More than simply widening our selling options, the addition of these expansion colours transforms the profile of Elmo 01 as a collection, putting a much more modern slant on the incumbent Black colour way.

Both new colours come from a modern mindset: Peach Fuzz is inspired by the Pantone Color Institute’s 2024 Color of the Year, while the pure minimalism of Frost perfectly matches the silhouette’s stripped-back simplicity. Both combine effortlessly with steel, and enamel-fill logos look crisp and strong in white and black respectively.

All colours offered follow our original material specifications: few models make more elegantly efficient use of resin, stainless steel and enamel. Cartridge/converter fountain pens are fitted with a 6mm filigree steel nib (EF, F, M, B, Stub 1.1, Stub 1.5). Fountain pen, rollerball and twist-action ballpoint are all delivered in our 200 mm Vintage Class eco-case and supplied with a taffeta pouch.

Montegrappa makes an emphatic return to classical opulence with the opening stanza from the new Greek Mythology collector series. A new episode in luxury commences with Odyssey Chapter I, ready to begin its journey to dealers from end of June, 2024.

Odyssey Chapter I is a wonder of lost wax casting that chronicles the celebrated story of Odysseus and his perilous 10-year homecoming after the Trojan War. Books 9 to 12 of Ancient Greece’s epic poem describe the King of Ithaca’s encounters with the lotus-eaters, Polyphemus, Aeolus and the Laestrygonians. Our barrel overlay depicts each episode with tiny vermeil friezes framed with silver Greek fret bas-relief.

Sculpting reaches its zenith on the cap, where Corinthian architecture’s acanthus leaves, volutes (scrolls) and rosettes are recreated with spectacular definition and crowned with a mother-of-pearl cap top. For these components, our casting team has recreated flourishes from Ancient Greece’s most ornamental architectural order at miniature and micro scales. The clip uses silver and vermeil to replicate the same column in miniature, with the tiny figure of Zeus perched upon its capital.

Resin core material contributes to aesthetics with its neutral marble colouring and elegant Corinthian fluting. On a silver grip section, Greek fret engraving provides delicate detail above a vermeil logo band. The design’s use of two-tone contrast is reinforced on fountain pens, where a ⌀6mm 18K gold nib (EF, F, M, B, Stub 1.1) depicts Greece’s supreme god in yellow gold. Piston filling is operated by a fluted blind cap with a decorative disc.

Editions of 266 fountain pens and rollerballs correspond to the value of the word ‘Ελλάς’ (Greece) in ancient isopsephic numerology. Custom packaging is suitably dramatic: Odyssey Chapter I is concealed within a Trojan Horse model, secured in a magnetically affixed section to be removed and used as a desk stand. Odysseus’ most famous creation is intriguing and impactful in wood and contains a document drawer. Accessories include a vegan leather pen pouch and, for fountain pens, a custom-engraved bottle of ink.

An intriguing new chapter from our science-minded Avanguardia series is preparing to leave our laboratory. Our new Limited Edition pays tribute to an Italian icon and titan of technological achievement. Marconi Model 150 is available for delivery to dealers from end of June, 2024.

As the inventor of wireless telegraphy, Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937) was a a Nobel Prize-winner whose curiosity and ingenuity led to one of history’s most consequential discoveries. Today’s connected world is built on Marconi’s groundwork, while the wealth and celebrity he enjoyed during his lifetime make him a notable precursor to today’s Silicon Valley overlords.

To commemorate 150 years since the inventor’s birth, Marconi Model 150 is a period piece that elaborates Marconi’s work. Material, design and engineering details return to the aesthetics of a pioneering age in editions of 150 fountain pens and rollerballs. Our design uses high-tech modular componentry, interactivity and imaginative accessories to let owners share a profound sense of invention.

Brass is used as a principal material for the body, grip section and for framing modular segments made from palisander rosewood, braided wire and polycarbonate. All brass elements are precision-milled on CNC-machines, and use rose-gold electroplating to mimic copper ferrules, winders and other details. A steel-wire pocket clip also uses a copper effect to simulate a vintage transmitter.

Mechanical complications provide additional highlights via a domed resin cap top with telegraph key haptics and a polycarbonate, particle-filled barrel segment – a reference to the coherer wave-detection device that was pivotal to Marconi’s discovery.

Fountain pens use a concealed Power-Push mechanism, and carry an 8mm, 18K rose-gold nib (EF, F, M, B, Stub 1.1) with ebonite feed. On the nib, custom engraving reproduces wave forms on a copper-coloured ground, and pens are supplied with a custom-engraved bottle of black ink.

Custom packaging is perfectly married to the edition’s theme, providing owners with a wooden work cabinet finished with steel plaques, mirrors and an acrylic lid. The design’s spring-loaded cap top allows it to be suspended between two Montegrappite nodes. Alternately, owners can dismantle the pen and use the bureau’s compartments to clean, charge and arrange the various components.
